Pink Party!
"Imagine moving to New York City with your husband and baby boy to start a brand new life. Five days after arriving, your husband suffers a massive stroke and is put on life support. By the grace of God, he pulls through but with major damage. Thinking that you’re lucky to have him, you find out that your 18-month-old is autistic. Feeling overwhelmed but knowing you must be strong, you undergo a routine mammogram only to receive a diagnosis of Stage 2 breast cancer, which necessitates a radical mastectomy." This is the story of Lisa Lara-Vega, a true warrior.
On May 4th, I attended a "Pink Party." This fundraiser, held at Sanctuary Boutique, was a shopping party run by a dear friend, Carla Murino Mohan (owner of Carla's Closet). A percentage of all proceeds was donated to Lisa.
I had fun looking at all the beautiful clothes, testing some cupcakes, and even sneaking in some Miss Staten Island recruiting! Once again, a community has come together for someone in need. I met some wonderful people, as well.
As Carla said, "We are committed to the belief that all women are beautiful, and the scars we obtain by living our lives, and overcoming difficulties, make us even more beautiful." Thank you for having me!
