Borough Hall Tree Lighting

This Saturday, after my long morning at the Make-A-Wish Foundation Metro New York office, I made an appearance the Borough Hall Tree Lighting Ceremony! Many members of the community joined in the celebration, including singers from an elementary school and intermediate school. There's no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than surrounded by friends, family, and the community, all enjoying Dunkin' Donuts and holiday songs!

Children found me, Miss Richmond County, Stephanie Accardo, and Miss Richmond County's Outstanding Teen, Alexa Moley, the minute we arrived! They were so excited to be meeting "princesses" and insisted on taking as many pictures as they could with us!

We also ran into Joan Cusack, one of our judges from the Miss Staten Island pageant, which took place one month ago!

Santa made an appearance, as well, to ask the children what they wanted for Christmas and take pictures. Sponsors including Macy's and Aflac donated toys to give to children that night. Stephanie and Alexa joined me in distributing the presents right beside Santa. It was so rewarding to see the joy on each child's face as they received Macy's Smurfs, Aflac's Ducks, reading books, coloring books, and much more. We definitely had a lot of fun with it!

It was so rewarding, and one man truly made it all that much more special. He came over to us with his children and we let them pick out their toys. As they went to leave he looked at us all said, "God bless you guys - really this is amazing what you're doing." It is little things like that that are the reason we do what we do for our community. To know that we really did make someone's holiday season a little brighter was an amazing feeling!

I had such a great time and I can't wait for my next appearance at Our Lady Queen of Peace on Tuesday followed by my appearance at P.S.8 for "Jamie Macchia, Miss Staten Island Day" on Thursday!
